The second-hand marketplace Members Share Anger Over Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying all users about the change.
Social Media Response
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with similar services.
The platform has recommended to check their listings and manually change the size if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the service retracted a modification to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
